Do your goals follow your values?

The focus of most advisors is building wealth for yourself and your family. I have always felt uncomfortable with this message. I think that my uncomfortableness comes from my parents, who instilled these values and beliefs when I was a child. I know that I can use wealth for good or for evil. Two quotes from the bible that have had a notable impact on my life are, "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil." and, "Those who love money will never have enough." (NLT) The bible has a lot to say about money, much more than these two verses. There are thousands of passages about money. The values that I hold have come from studying all that the bible says.

Those are my values, and they affect the way that I handle my money. I want to guide my clients to manage money according to their values and not mine, but I think it is essential to understand where I am coming from before choosing to become my client.

I believe that managing money involves many different aspects.

  • Saving

  • Investing

  • Spending

  • Giving

  • Protecting what you have

  • Teaching your children

My job is to understand your values and help you make goals that align with those values. I believe that unleashed purpose springs from aligning goals and values, and then focusing on what is most important.

I understand that most people don't spend a lot of time thinking and working on their goals. I also know that it is unusual actually to write down your values. Aligning values and goals is difficult to do on your own. I will help you walk through this process. I promise to guide you without being pushy or judgmental. I intend to direct you toward a plan that motivates you to move forward. I believe that you can do this.

Please see my web page for more information about the way that I work with clients.
