Are You Getting the Most Out of This Stage of Life?

Are you getting the most out of this stage of your life? In all honesty, you might not be—and here’s why.

When I’m working with individuals on understanding their goals and the things in life that they really, really want to do, retirement is usually somewhere near the top of the list. Most people want to retire and not run out of money. And I get it, because most of us do.

But you have to make sure that you’re getting the most out of this stage of life as well, and not just waiting to start living several decades into the future.

Many people fall into the trap of thinking, “Well, we’re saving up for tomorrow. We’re saving up for this objective down the road.” But it’s easy to accidentally forget that you’re living today and that you’re experiencing exciting stages of life with your family and with your friends that hopefully won’t pass you by.

The best way I’ve found to get clear on that is by putting together a financial plan that gives you the freedom to enjoy life now while also saving for retirement. We want to create a financial plan that doesn’t monopolize all of today’s money for retirement, but one that is actually right-sized for you, realistic and still allows you to take a disciplined approach.

While you take that disciplined approach, you’ll also have those goals that you want to achieve with your family. If you want to take one big vacation each year, we can set a budget that allows you to take your vacation and still know that you’re saving sufficiently for retirement.

One of the biggest and most unfortunate things that you could experience is being on your deathbed and knowing you’ve got all this money saved up, but also knowing that your money was saved up at the expense of not spending more time with your family, not having the experiences that you wanted to, and possibly not helping out people that needed it in different ways.

So don’t let not understanding how your finances work and how your financial plan will realistically work in the future hold you back from those life experiences and, and don’t let the stage of life you’re living today pass you by.
